BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty is leaving the early morning news show very soon. The presenter has announced that she is switching over to BBC Radio 5 Live in the new year.
This comes after Naga recently faced an investigation from the BBC over claims of bullying and making an inappropriate comment in the workplace. The allegations surfaced at the end of 2025.
The Daily Star is taking a look back at the controversies Naga has faced throughout her career and the reason why she has decided to leave BBC Breakfast, so scroll on for a deep dive into the presenter's past.
Back in November 2025 it was reported that Naga Munchetty was being formally investigated over allegations of bullying and the BBC had launched a probe to investigate the claims.
Naga had allegedly been reprimanded over two alleged incidents, including an allegation of bullying, in three years. She was also alleged to have used a slang term for a sex act during an off-air break at Radio 5 Live in 2022 and asking a colleague if they had done it.
She also allegedly falsely accused a junior staffer of stealing. An insider said: "It was humiliating. There was no evidence, no apology. The woman left not long after, completely demoralised."
In 2025 a BBC spokesperson said: "We do not comment on individual HR matters." The outcome of the investigation has not been publicly revealed.
In September 2025, the editor of BBC Breakfast Richard Frediani had been cleared of bullying allegations following an investigation. Back in April 2025 Tim Davie, who has since resigned as BBC director-general, and BBC board chairman Samir Shah vowed to "draw a line in the sand" after an independent review found some "well-known names" were "not being held to account for poor behaviour".
During weather presenter Carol Kirkwood's final appearance on BBC Breakfast, Carol appeared as though she was surprised to see Naga in the studio: "Thank you all for coming - and even you, Nags!"
The show's host responded with a laugh: "Im just waiting for the countdown for you to go!"
Carol was given a cake and Naga asked: "Are you going to break the habit of a lifetime and actually share the cake?" to which Carol replied: "No, Naga, absolutely not - why would I do that?" as Naga then retorted: "Exactly. Why change it? We're only going to remember you one way."
She faced a backlash after the on-air interaction. A TV insider told The Sun: "Naga and Carol have been very close personal friends for many years, as well as being very good colleagues as part of the BBC Breakfast Team.
"Everyone involved in Carol Kirkwoods last programme for Breakfast on 1 April was there to pay tribute to Carols long service for the BBC, and they all did so fittingly."
Naga's decision to leave the show was announced live on air on July 28. Jon Kay told viewers: "Our friend and colleague Naga Munchetty has announced that she will be leaving BBC Breakfast to co-present the BBC 5 Live Breakfast Show from January next year" as Sally Nugent continued: "Naga has just shared the news with the current presenters Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards."
BBC Radio 5 Live has announced that Naga will be the new presenter of their 5 Live Breakfast show beginning in January 2027. She will be leading the broadcast five days a week.
Naga said: "I'm thrilled to be joining 5 Live Breakfast in January. Live news, great conversations and connecting with audiences are what I love most about broadcasting, and 5 Live does all of that brilliantly."
"It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends."
