Harry Potter fans have broken their silence on what they really think of HBO's newest adaptation of the stories. It comes as the broadcaster shares some new behind-the-scenes glimpses at the show, including the stars' own audition tapes.
Fans of all things Hogwarts are being spoiled as the show is now officially under production, hoping to bring Harry Potter's story to life in a new way. The show is set to diverge from the films somewhat as it tries to breathe new life into JK Rowling's iconic seven-novel series.
But despite the love for the upcoming series, several fans have distanced themselves from the new adaptation, due to author JK Rowling's views on trans people. But that hasn't stopped HBO from sharing how the show is coming along as it gears up for its premiere.
An entirely new cast is set to be brought in for the show, although some stars from the film series could make a small cameo, according to the Daily Mail.
Ahead of the upcoming series, HBO has released a documentary looking behind the scenes of the show and how producers settled on their new cast. Several famous faces have joined the line-up, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
Titled "Finding Harry: The Craft Behind The Magic", the documentary takes a look at how the cast was formed and gives rare access to the stars' audition tapes. Lasting for nearly half an hour, fans are given a walkthrough of how producers combed their way through 40,000 tapes from all over the UK.
During the doc, directors Emily Brockmann and Lucy Bevan are seen watching Dominic McLaughlin's audition tapes, who will play Harry, as well as Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Ron and Hermione. Dominic's tape showed him reading a poem in his tape, which he filmed himself and sent to bosses.
Speaking on the decision to cast the trio, Lucy explained: "It was a really exciting challenge to find three kids that youd believe as friends. These are all ordinary kids, but they are all extraordinary."
When asked about what made Dominic stand out amongst all the other actors, Lucy said: "Dom just had this sort of quiet confidence in himself." And it wasn't long for fans of the series to give their thoughts on seeing Dominic being given the role of a lifetime.
"The snippets of the trios audition tapes only increased my faith in them," one user penned. "Dominic has that young arrogance Harry had in the books," added another.
A third exclaimed: "This boy was born to be Harry." Whilst a fourth penned: "My eyes got teary when the designers talked about not wanting to let fans down."
Fans also got to see just a taste of the show's setting, as glimpses of Diagon Alley, Gringotts Wizarding Bank and even Privet Drive were also shown throughout the documentary. The show is still being filmed, but the series is set to hit our screens in December this year.
