A TV star has lifted the lid on what they described as the most bizarre programme they have ever worked on a Channel 4 series so unusual it never even made it to air following the tragic death of its presenter and former Love Island host Caroline Flack.
Telly veteran Edward Oldfield has opened up about about what it was like working on unaired the Channel 4 show alongside the late TV presenter.
Edward revealed he was asked to be part of a jury panel who were tasked with deciding whether contestants should be granted life-changing cosmetic surgery, all funded by the broadcaster.
The format saw hopefuls plead their case for procedures ranging from nose jobs to facelifts, with the panel ultimately holding the power over whether their transformations would go ahead.
Recalling first being approached about the project back in 2019, the telly fan, who has appeared on 50+ shows, admitted they were instantly intrigued by the sheer absurdity of the idea.
Edward spoke exclusively to Daily Star in collaboration with casino.org and said: In 2019, I headed up a jury panel deciding whether contestants should receive life-changing plastic surgery nose jobs, facelifts and more all funded by Channel 4.
"I jumped at the chance because the whole premise sounded utterly ridiculous." However, what began as a curiosity soon turned into something far more profound.
Despite the headline-grabbing concept, the show quickly took on a deeper emotional weight. Contestants opened up about their insecurities, past traumas and the deeply personal reasons behind wanting to change their appearance.
Far from being superficial, many of the stories were raw and moving, leaving a lasting impression on those involved in the decision-making process.
Edward added: "But what surprised me was how emotional and rewarding it became. Listening to people explain why they wanted to change their appearance was often deeply personal and moving."
The series was fronted by Caroline Flack, who brought her trademark warmth and empathy to the role. According to the star, her presence was central to the shows tone, helping contestants feel supported as they shared their experiences. Tragically, following Carolines death in February 2020, the programme was shelved and never broadcast.
Its a real shame, because it had huge potential and clearly meant a lot to the contestants, the star explained. Many participants had pinned their hopes on the show not just for physical changes, but for a fresh start emotionally and mentally too.
While the public never got to see the series, those involved behind the scenes insist it was far more meaningful than its controversial premise suggested. The star said the experience challenged their own assumptions about cosmetic surgery and highlighted how powerful self-image can be in shaping peoples lives.
Years on, the unaired project remains one of the most memorable chapters of his television career despite also starring on Britain's Got Talent, Deal or No Deal and new ITV show 99 to Beat.
