The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest of the Earth's oceans. It spans the distance between the Americas and East Asia.

The deepest point in the world is Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, which is found in the northwestern Pacific.

The Pacific is a geopolitical battleground too, as China seeks to exert its influence on countries in East Asia and key islands that can be used as naval bases.
