A man has been arrested by Gardai probing a horror shooting which left another man with a horrific eye injury.
The shocking incident occurred at a property in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, Co Galway in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
It is understood that a gunman gained entry to the apartment and attempted to shoot the victim, a man in his 20s, at around 3:15am.
Shots were fired through a bedroom door - with the victim then being wounded in the eye before the attacker fled.
The incident comes amid feuding violence in the area in recent months.
In an update, Gardai said they "have arrested a man as part of their investigation into the discharge of a firearm at a residence in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, on Monday 3rd August 2026.
"The man, aged in his 20s, is being detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
"Investigations are ongoing."
