The Canadian Media Directors Council plays a pro-active role in the media communications industry as advocates, leaders and as advisors, to ensure a fair and progressive marketplace on behalf of our clients, our agencies and our media partners. We operate as a collective voice on behalf of advertisers, leveraging our significant investment in advertising placement, to counter-balance the concentration of media ownership.

Cannes Lions 2026 was a signal of what comes next. What stood out was not a single trend, but the convergence of many: Stability: In a high-stress economy, brands that reduce friction, create certainty and offer a sense of ease will have a powerful advantage. Enterprise AI: Moving from experimentation to scalable business transformation. Creator Economy: Shifting from influencer marketing to full-scale media businesses. Culture: Moving from a backdrop to a business driver. Brand Equity: Becoming even more critical in an AI-driven discovery ecosystem. "The next era of media will be shaped by how we connect culture, intelligence and growth." Shannon Lewis, President, CMDC Read the full Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2026 wrap-up for Globe Media Group: https://lnkd.in/gvWc7nAw
At CannesLions2026, the CMDC Board came together at Google Beach with Sean Downey for our annual board gathering and one of our most future-focused conversations of the festival. The definitive takeaway: To capture the true value of AI, leaders must move beyond experimentation and shift to enterprise-level thinking, seamlessly connecting creativity, performance, and growth. Thank you to Sean Downey, Laura Pearce, Andrea MacDonald, and the entire Google team for hosting the CMDC Board and driving such an inspiring leadership conversation. #CannesLions2026 #MediaLeaders
Canadas AI moment is here. The Government of Canada released AI For All, its Artificial Intelligence Strategy, a timely and important signal for Canadas innovation economy. At a moment when intangible assets, ideas, data, creativity and intellectual property are driving global growth, Canada needs AI policies that help our innovators build, scale and compete on the world stage. For the media industry, this is both an opportunity and a responsibility. AI can unlock new models of creativity, productivity and growth, but it must be shaped with trust, transparency and human intelligence at the core. In response to the release of AI For All, Shannon Lewis, President of CMDC, shared the following: Canada is choosing ambition over standing still. For the media industry, this strategy signals real growth and a responsibility to lead with innovation, trust and human intelligence. As AI reshapes how ideas are created, distributed and measured, our industry has a critical role to play in building an AI future that is competitive, ethical and Canadian. Nothing gets me more inspired than talking AI and marketing strategy with leaders who get excited too! A few weeks ago, at the CMDC (Canadian Media Director's Council) Summit, I had the chance to do exactly that with two incredible thought leaders: Megan Pattillo and Lee Beech. We dug into how AI is reshaping the advertiser-agency-platform dynamic, and honestly? The opportunity is staggering. The brands crushing it right now aren't just adopting AI, they're partnering strategically to unlock capabilities they couldn't have imagined were possible. It's about finding collaborators who get it and who see disruption as an opportunity. It's about being willing to challenge every assumption and embrace entirely new workflows. That's where the next-generation teams live. Grateful to Amazon Ads and CMDC (Canadian Media Director's Council) for hosting our fireside conversation.

CMDC Media Leaders Dinner 2026 Last week, we brought together more than 200 leaders from across Canadas media industry for the CMDC Media Leaders Dinner. A highlight of the evening was hearing from Rudyard Griffiths, Senior Fellow, Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, whose keynote reminded us of Canadas unique position to lead. Canada has what the world needs: talent, capital, natural resources, creativity, stability and values that matter in an increasingly complex world. We are a country built on long-term relationships, diverse voices and a strong democracy. Thank you to our CMDC Board, our partners and every leader who continues to invest in the Canadian media industry and its future. This is what it looks like when an industry comes together to build a stronger Canadian media ecosystem. I recently attended the CMDC (Canadian Media Director's Council)) Summit 2026 The Age of Intelligence and somehow left thinking about snarling polar bears, media economics, and hockey culture all in one afternoon. A few moments that stuck with me: Adam Shoalts basically said: get comfortable being uncomfortable turns out thats not just for Arctic expeditions, but also our industry right now. The Canadian Media Means Business report made one thing very clear media dollars dont just perform, they circulate. Across industries, jobs, culture. Way bigger ripple effect than we give it credit for. If youre in media/marketing, this is actually worth the read: https://lnkd.in/e7BDpqfn And the #HeatedRivalry deep dive by Bell Mediasuch a fun example of how investing in strong local storytelling can drive both cultural relevance and real business impact (even beyond Canada) Big takeaway: We talk a lot about efficiency and optimization but impact comes from what (and who) we choose to invest in. #cmdc #canadianmedia #mediaeconomics
