Sir Paul McCartney's childhood home at Forthlin Road is now very much on the tourist trail after it was bought by the National Trust in 1996 and billed the Birthplace of the Beatles. Another draw is picturesque Calderstones Park named after the ancient megaliths which are said to be older than Stonehenge. According to park legend 1,000 years ago a court sat underneath the Allerton Oak which is now hollow.
