Man shares moment pilot on Jet2 flight from Liverpool tells passengers 'we need to land' - live updates

The flight was heading to Palma de Mallorca from Liverpool and now appears to be heading towards Manchester

A Jet2 flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport has landed at Manchester Airport after declaring an emergency. Real-time aviation alert service Squawk reported the flight to Palma de Mallorca Airport declared an emergency this morning, Thursday, August 6.

Squawk posted on X the Boeing 737-800 is issuing a 7700 general emergency alert. The emergency signal was reportedly declared at 12,875 ft on its flight path near Manchester.

According to the Flightradar24 website, the 8am flight changed direction as it flew near Shrewsbury before heading back towards Liverpool. The jet now appears to have landed at Manchester Airport.

Man says passengers are still stuck at Manchester Airport

The passenger who spoke to the ECHO this morning, Daren, says he is still stranded at Manchester Airport. He reported that children on the flight are "starting to get restless."

He claimed they were supposed to board a flight at 11.30am.

'Something wasn't right' on Jet2 plane which declared emergency on Liverpool flight to Majorca

A passenger onboard a Jet2 flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport which declared an emergency above 12,000ft has recounted the moment the pilot announced it would have to make an "emergency" landing at Manchester Airport.

The passenger, who is travelling to Palma for a long weekend with his wife, brother and sister-in-law, contacted the ECHO on Thursday morning confirming the flight has landed safely in Manchester.

Describing the moment the pilot on Jet2 flight told passengers "we need to land," he said: "There was a sudden vibration and more noise than normal as soon as we took off. We felt the vibrations, we felt something.

"It wasn't enough to alarm anyone but we noticed a change, we noticed something wasn't right. Everyone was calm, we didn't speak about it but everyone knew something was going on."

He added: "Around 15 minutes into the flight the captain said there was an issue. Everyone remained calm and the stewards were professional. The captain reassured everyone, Jet2 have been so good, there was lots of kids on the flight.

"The pilot said he believed it was a bird strike and that we would need to land and check it out. We turned around to Manchester and landed safely."

The passenger says Jet2 has organised for another flight to resume their outward journey to Palma around 11.25am.

Passenger on flight has contacted the ECHO

A passenger onboard the 8am Jet2 Boeing 737-800 from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Palma has confrimed the flight landed safely at Manchester Airport this morning.

The passenger contacted the ECHO on Thursday, saying: "As soon as the plane took off there was a sudden vibration and more noise, but nothing that alarmed passengers.

"Around 15 minutes into the flight the captain said there was an issue. Everyone remained calm and the stewards were professional. The captain reassured everyone.

"The plane landed safely at Manchester airport and we are expecting to get on another flight to resume our journey around 11.25am."
