Bluey Movie sparks backlash as fans threaten to boycott film over huge switch-up

Not all fans of TV show Bluey are looking forward to seeing the upcoming movie based on the franchise. Many have been left fuming that The Bluey Movie features a huge switch-up to the well-loved programme

The long-awaited Bluey Movie finally hits the big screen on August 6, 20207, in the UK however not all fans of the TV may be going after one major change. The film is the result of a joint venture between Ludo Studio, BBC Studios, and Disney, with the first teaser trailer and official poster making their debut at Disney's D23 Expo before being shared with wider audiences online.

The Heeler family are at the centre of the action as the movie takes place over the course of a single, jam-packed day. A surprise twist throws life into chaos for Bluey, Bingo, Chilli, and Bandit, sending the beloved family on an adventure full of mayhem and excitement.

The initial preview footage depicts Bluey and Bingo engaged in an energetic round of "Keepy Uppy", and devoted viewers of the series have immediately spotted that the film utilises 3D computer-generated animation, contrasting sharply with the television show's traditional 2D animation style.

Numerous viewers have expressed disappointment regarding this substantial change in The Bluey Movie, claiming the production has 'ruined' Bluey, with some pledging to avoid watching the film altogether.

Following Disney Studios' release of the movie poster, one person fumed: "You had a 2D animated feature that could have shattered every box-office record. Instead, you reduced it to the level of all the run-of-the-mill productions that merely try to hook children's attention with bright colours and rapid-fire cuts."

While another added: "Not going to lie - the animation puts me off instantly, Bluey is perfect as it is, why change it?"

A third viewer stated: "Boo! Change it back to 2D; it is one the of main reasons we all love it! My kids said,'What's wrong with Bluey?'.

"We were so excited and now I won't even bother taking my kids to this. We are looking for nostalgia and that beautiful sense play that Bluey is famous for. The 3D animation completely goes against what Bluey stands for."

A fourth person questioned: "Even my 5-year-old hates the new animation style. The reason you are making a movie is because everyone loves the show. Why would you change it?"

One viewer also suggested producers have "broken many hearts" with the film, while another urged: "You still have time to fix this mess."

However, despite the criticism, it appears many Bluey enthusiasts remain eager to see the forthcoming film.

Following the announcement, one supporter declared: "So excited and happy," while another confirmed they 'were sat'.

BBC Studios and Disney Studios have been approached for comment.
