Full list of BBC talent salaries revealed: Chris Evans, Gary Lineker and Claudia Winkleman scoop best-paid roles

The highest-paid stars and presenters of BBC TV and radio have had their wages exposed to the public

BBC salaries reveal top-earning woman earns 1.5m less than male counterpart,

The BBC is facing a huge public backlash after it revealed its highest-paid stars are raking in millions each year - and the gender pay gap is still too wide for comfort.

Detailed analysis of the figures unveiled shows over two-thirds of the top earners are men, with the highest-paid man - Chris Evans - trousering 1.5million MORE than the highest-paid woman, Claudia Winkleman.

This year, for the first time, the national broadcaster will reportedly 'break protocol' to allow the top talent to publicly defend their wages - something both Chris Evans and Gary Lineker have already done.

A source told Mirror Online: "The BBC will be defending the amounts we pay in a highly competitive market, but if someone's getting criticism about their pay, why shouldn't they be able to defend themselves as well?"

A BBC spokesman added yesterday: "Our on-air presenters and journalists regularly engage on social media and there's nothing different today."

Biggest discrepancies in BBC pay

Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, who both present BBC Breakfast, appear to have a huge gulf between their wages(Image: BBC)

Louise Minchin - who has been presenting BBC Breakfast as a regular anchor since 2006 - doesn't even appear in the list of 96 exployees, meaning her pay is below the 150,000 threshold.

But her Breakfast co-star Dan Walker, who joined the flagship programme in January 2016, earns up to 249,999 a year.

He has since tweeted to defend his huge pay packet, insisting that each of the main Breakfast presenters get the same salary but his extra money comes from his other job on Football Focus.

Louise has worked at the BBC for 14 years, covering huge stories including the 7/7 London bombings, the BP oil spill and the hanging of Saddam Hussein. She also guest presents The One Show, BBC News At One and has worked on other programmes including Children in Need.

...but her co-star Matt Baker still out-earns her(Image: PA)

Over on The One Show, Alex Jones earned between 400,000 and 449,999 in the last year.

Sounds like a very healthy pay packet - until you consider her male co-star Matt Baker pocketed between 450,000 and 499,999 in the same position.

Notable faces missing from the top-paid list

Emily Maitlis of Newsnight doesn't earn over 150,000(Image: BBC)

Newsnight journalist Emily Maitlis is just one of the women missing from the list of 96, indicating she earns less than 150,000 a year.

Louise Minchin also didn't make the cut, along with Radio 4 Today's presenter Sarah Montague - although she works fewer shifts than her co-presenter Justin Webb.
