Craig Revel Horwood has confessed he initially believed a fellow Strictly Come Dancing judge was "stuck-up" upon their first encounter. Known as the show's resident "Mr Nasty", Craig isn't shy about delivering sharp observations, and it appears his forthright opinions extend beyond the celebrity contestants and dancers - he's revealed his initial take on a co-judge was equally harsh.
The revelation emerged during an instalment of his new podcast with fellow judge Anton Du Beke, aptly titled Judgemental, which provided insight into their relationship. Anton characterised them as "inseparable".
Staying true to his reputation on the show, Craig acknowledged that his initial assessment of the well-known ballroom dancer was far from complimentary, admitting he suspected Anton viewed himself as the "king of ballroom". He remarked: "Well, I got to say, my first impression of you, I thought you were really, like, stuck-up.
"I thought you were, like, above your station," he elaborated, while Anton quipped that he was indeed "totally above".
Craig went on: "Ooh, look, he thinks he's the king of ballroom; look at him. And then I got to know you a little bit better, obviously. And I changed my mind because I loved what you did with Ann Widdecombe. I thought that was brilliant."
"And how you actually treated, you know, your dance partners, I thought was really, really good. I sort of got that completely wrong about you, actually, coz you're not stuck-up at all. In fact, you're quite the opposite."
Anton then quipped that he "wouldn't go that far", though Craig said that his fellow judge was "grounded". Craig also admitted that was crucial in developing their friendship as he doesn't like people who "aren't grounded". Anton replied: "I love that."
Craig, who hails from the Australian town of Ballarat, has been a Strictly fixture since the programme launched in 2004, while Anton transitioned from professional dancer to judge in 2021.
Separately, Craig has revealed why he's been "living in a caravan" earlier this year. Beyond the programme, Craig and his partner, Jonathan Myring, are renovating their 2million, seven-bedroom mansion in King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire.
After purchasing the 1867 residence in 2021, they commenced the renovation soon thereafter. Eight months previously, they were in the "demolition stage" and anticipated completion by August.
Craig previously revealed how there was "no outdoor walls at all" and how he was "living in a one-up, two-down" annex, "basically the size of caravan".
As of April, his temporary lodgings were apparently still modest.
He told The Mail's Richard Eden: "I am living in a caravan at the moment. It's cheaper than storage."
