A bride has been slammed after unveiling a list of strict wedding day rules for her bridal party - alongside asking each member to contribute 3,700 towards her big day. Sharing her disbelief online, the bride's cousin revealed the list of demands she received after being "honoured" with a role as a bridesmaid.
While she expected to help celebrate her cousin's special day, she never imagined it would come with such a hefty price tag - or a ban on eating for most of the day. In a social media post, later shared on Reddit, she said: "I agreed to be a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding because I love her and wanted to be there to support her on such a special day. But after seeing these bridal party rules, I honestly have to ask... is this actually serious?"
The cousin admitted she initially thought the list was a joke, but soon realised the bride was completely serious.
She added: "Being part of a bridal party should be about celebrating the bride, making memories and supporting each other - not feeling like you've signed up to a strict contract full of rules that take all the fun out of the day.
"I completely understand wanting things to be organised and wanting your wedding to be beautiful, but some of these requests feel a bit extreme and, honestly, difficult to take seriously."
The biggest shock came when the bride asked each member of the bridal party to contribute $5,000 (3,700) towards the wedding, covering expenses such as dresses, shoes, hair and makeup.
Alongside the eye-watering cost, she also introduced a series of strict rules for the wedding day, including a food ban after 7am, prohibiting alcohol and even telling guests they weren't allowed to dance.
The rules included:
The cousin said: "A wedding is meant to be a celebration, not something where everyone is worried about breaking rules or doing the wrong thing.
"I'm happy to stand beside my cousin and support her, but I can't pretend I'm not shocked by how serious and controlling some of these expectations feel."
Social media users were equally stunned by the demands. One user said: "Wow, this is genuinely insane to expect from a wedding party." Another added: "Not being able to eat all day is unacceptable." A third said: "I would be so grumpy all day!"
