A beloved great-grandmother who was struck by a van in a supermarket car park has tragically died from her injuries.

Alicia Ternant was rushed to hospital by air ambulance after the horrific collision outside Morrison's in Alnwick, Northumberland, at approximately 1.45pm on October 29. However, the 69 year old local resident sadly died as a result of her injuries on Thursday.

It had previously been reported that she was using a white walking stick when the incident occurred. Northumbria Police confirmed the crash is believed to have involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van, with the driver staying at the scene afterwards.

Alicia's heartbroken relatives have now shared their anguish whilst paying tribute to their cherished family member, reports Chronicle Live.

In a statement they said: "Alicia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived life to the full and was very active, often enjoying holidays and getting out and about with her family and friends. Losing Alicia has been completely unexpected and, as a family, we are completely devastated she is no longer with us."

Alicia's death is being investigated by Northumbria Police's Collision Investigation Unit. Officers have today renewed their appeal for witnesses. Sgt Greg Huntley expressed: "I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to Alicia's loved ones while they navigate their loss. We continue to offer them our full support through specially trained family liaison officers.

"We're renewing our appeal for witnesses and footage today, with the area believed to be busy with lots of passers-by at the time.

"At this stage, we understand Alicia had travelled to Morrisons in a blue Suzuki Swift car which was then parked up in a disabled bay before she was injured. Any information shared with us, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital so we can get answers for Alicia's family."

Anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact Northumbria Police quoting reference number: NP-20251029-0509.
