Manchester United still have several squad holes in need of filling between now and the end of the transfer window. Michael Carrick has been hard at work overhauling his midfield, but the Red Devils have certain needs in defence and attack that require attention.
United appear to be hard at work attempting to resolve those positions, too. However, the Ineos-led operation are taking a different tack to previous transfer windows as value for money looks to be taking greater precedence this summer.
And United continue to demonstrate that approach after fresh links with a surprise name. Mirror Football discusses that and more in the latest transfer headline round-up.

As questions persist as to whether United will succeed with a move for Lewis Hall, the club are forced to consider alternative names. Hall, 21, has been incessantly linked as the new heir to Luke Shaw but Newcastle are holding firm in their not-for-sale stance.
That's led United to make a host of enquiries elsewhere, with Club Brugge's Joaquin Seys the latest target added to the shortlist. The Sun reported the Red Devils have already reached out to his club regarding his availability, while Arsenal and Aston Villa have also been in contact.
Seys, who is also 21, has impressed in the Pro League and even made a surprise run into Belgium's World Cup 2026 squad. There, he featured in the quarter-final loss to eventual winners Spain.
After moving Patrick Dorgu into a more effective wing role, Diogo Dalot is the only natural left-back alternative at Carrick's disposal at present. Shaw, 31, is now in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and it remains unclear as to whether the club will extend his stay.
The Sun has suggested Club Brugge will demand 30million for their player, though that isn't expected to be a major hurdle. However, competitive interest from Premier League champions Arsenal in particular could pose a problem.
Premier League icon John Obi Mikel has hailed United for their capture of Belgium's Youri Tielemans. And the former Chelsea star cannot get over how his old rivals were able to get hold of the playmaker for just 35m.
One day after signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a 48m move, it was announced a deal had been struck for Tielemans. United activated the player's release clause and it was reported Tielemans impressed bosses with just how motivated he was to complete the transfer.
Now, Champions League-winner and four-time FA Cup champion Mikel has ranked the move among his best of the summer. And he struggled to wrap his head around why Aston Villa would agree to insert such an affordable clause into their star's contract.
"For me, its Youri Tielemans," said Mikel on The Obi One Podcast when asked to judge the best midfield signings already made this summer. "Honestly, how the f*** did Manchester United get him for 35m? Thats a f***ing steal. I watched him before and during the World Cup and you can see that this is a player.
Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.
"Obviously, we all know how Tielemans plays, he can play as a six, an eight or a 10 and when you have a player that can play anywhere, it gives you the variety to change the way you want to play. Tielemans is that guy. He scores goals, hes dangerous from set pieces, hes brilliant on the ball and he rarely gives it away.
"The only thing people can say is that hes not the quickest, but he reads the game so well. He is very intelligent with and without the ball. When I look at all the midfielders that have transferred to different clubs [this window], the best one is Tielemans."
