Wayne Rooney was brutally honest about several aspects of the World Cup final in his role as a BBC pundit. The England legend watched the game from the TV studio inside the stadium on Sunday.
Spain won the World Cup for a second time, courtesy of Ferran Torres 106th-minute strike in extra time. Argentina attempted to stifle their opponents, with the defending champions not having a shot at goal until the final minutes of the game.
Despite Lionel Messi struggling to influence his sides attack, the match remained a notable spectacle. The extended half-time show, FIFA president Gianni Infantino presenting the trophy alongside US President Donald Trump and Argentina's post-match antics meant there was plenty to discuss beyond the action on the pitch.
Former England striker Rooney did not hold back when asked to give his opinion on the games notable incidents. Heres a look at what the Three Lions icon said during the World Cup final.

After the games first 45 minutes, attention switched to the controversial half-time show, which doubled the interval time to 30 minutes. The show began with Madonna being driven pitchside by Brazil heroes Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, followed by performances from Justin Bieber, Shakira, BTS and more. However, the Super Bowl-style entertainment left Rooney unmoved.
When asked to name his favourite moment by BBC host Gabby Logan, Rooney replied: Im going to be honest, mine was when it finished. I like a lot of these artists, but I thought it was crap.
I did, honestly. It just didnt get me going. I just want the football to come back on. I like Burna Boy, I like Bieber, I like Shakira, but that was too flat.
In the immediate aftermath of losing to Spain, Argentina defender Nahuel Molina appeared to lash out at Rodri. Leandro Paredes, who was shown a red card, also shoved Eric Garcias throat and wrestled Gavi to the ground.
Argentina had previously seen Enzo Fernandez sent off shortly before extra time. Rooney blasted the teams reaction to the result but admitted he was not shocked by the situation.
It doesnt surprise me. Weve seen it with Argentina before, Rooney said on the BBC. Its not the reaction you want.
We saw it after knocking England out in the last round as well. I think Enzo Fernandez has got what he deserves as well. Its disappointing. Thats just sad. If you lose a game, get out of there. Its really poor from them.
He added: Its a reaction to them being outplayed, outfought, outthought. They resort to that at the end. Its sad. Its poor from the Argentina team.
After the post-match brawl, Rooney hit out at FIFA president Infantino, who chose to walk out on to the pitch with Trump. There were loud boos as both men entered the field for the medal ceremony but Rooney specifically took issue with Infantino wearing bright white trainers with his suit.
He said: Im speechless at Infantinos trainers. He has to represent FIFA better than that with those trainers on stupid.
