Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:

Invincible VS developer Quarter Up has reportedly been hit with mass layoffs that have resulted in roughly 75 percent of the team being let go.

2026 has been a notably stellar year for fighting games, with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls recently claiming the championship belt and Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game standing in a worthy second place. The bronze medallist for best fighting game of the year has to go to Invincible VS, which launched all the way back in April.

While the first big Invincible game did have its issues, like an incredibly short story mode and a lack of content, it was overall a great fighter with tons of love for the source material and solid mechanics. VS started off strong with positive reviews and one million players (note, not copies sold), but it seemingly wasnt enough for the game to be considered a success.

As reported by This Week in Videogames, multiple staff members at Quarter Up have shared messages on LinkedIn over the past few months indicating that theyve been laid off from the studio. One post claimed there were redundancies in force at Quarter Up, while another noted that many others had been impacted.

Its sadly not too surprising to see Invincible VS in this situation, as the games concurrent player count on Steam dropped to less than a 1,000 in a few weeks. It currently has 24 active players as of the time of writing.

An anonymous source from Quarter Up said to This Week in Videogames that the layoffs were conducted in two waves, and that they believed around 75 percent of the studio was laid off. Quarter Up was a relatively small studio of 50 developers, which means that around 35 of them have been cut and only 15 remain.

One employee said that the layoffs were likely because Invincible VS didnt perform as well as the studio expected, and that the studio didnt have the budget to keep staff. Another theorised that the layoffs were a cost-cutting measure, which is common these days. The cuts were definitely all over the studio, and not focused on any team in particular.

As for what happens to Invincible VS now, one source thinks that theres a skeleton crew working on supporting the game through its first wave of DLC. With the reported layoffs, though, it looks unlikely that Invincible VS is going to get another round, and might even end up being sunset later down the line.
