Crash causes long delays on M4 and A48

According to traffic monitoring service Inrix: "Queuing traffic due to earlier accident on A48 Westbound from M4 J49 (Pont Abraham Roundabout, Hendy) to A476 Cross Hands West Food Park (Cross Hands). Congestion to Junction 48 (Hendy/Llaneli). Road has reopened."

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said crews have not been called to the scene following this afternoon's collision on the A48.

Police and ambulance crews are in attendance.

The below map shows where the crash has occurred (dotted red line) and how far back the congestion stretches on the M4 (solid red line).

There is queuing traffic on the westbound side of the M4 past Hendy.

An image shared on social media shows several emergency vehicles - police and ambulance - at the scene of the crash.

Traffic Wales shared news of the road closure shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday.

Dyfed-Powys Police has asked motorists to avoid the area.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "A48 Pontabraham - Cross Hands westbound. The road is currently closed due to a collision near Pontabraham Roundabout. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey. Thank you."
