Carol, of Maesdu Place, Llandudno, passed away peacefully, at Ysbyty Gwynedd, on Monday 6th July 2026, aged 68 years following a short battle with illness. A lady of many hobbies, Carol enjoyed interior decorating, tai chi, walking, swimming, being outdoors, spending time with her family and held a passion for Northern Soul music. In Memory of John William Hughes OBE It is with great sadness that John of Hendwr, Llandrillo passed away peacefully at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on 24 June aged 86. Loving husband to the late Glenys Ann and father to Susan and Philip and grandfather to Emily, Thomas, Robert and William. John passed away with the customary dignity and grace that defined the way he lived his life. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his warmth, generosity, good humour and the genuine interest he took in others. Hendwr was his life's work, and its customers were very dear to him. He valued the friendships he formed over many years and took enormous pride and pleasure in welcoming so many people and helping to create happy memories for them. As the highly active Chairman of the All Wales Flood Defence and Land Drainage Committee, he drew on a lifetime of farming at Hendwr to advise the government and help protect farmers, homes and businesses from flooding, work recognised with the award of his OBE in 2003. His sharp mind, sound judgement and quiet diplomacy also led to his appointment to the Lands Tribunal, a role he greatly valued for the opportunity it gave him to help people resolve difficult matters fairly. Born in Manchester, Heather had a wonderful childhood on her father's smallholding by the Clwyd River at Kinmel Bay, and attended Abergele Grammar School. Much-loved by her sons Alasdair (Ali) and Thomas (Tom) and her husband Stuart (Stu), a dear mother-in-law to Ellen and Emma and a fun-loving Nana to Beth, Cleo and Phoebe, each of whom brought so much joy to Heather. A retired university lecturer in Mathematics Education, Heather will be remembered fondly by her former colleagues at Prifysgol Bangor and her many students who went on to be secondary school teachers of mathematics, and by her family and friends who will miss her deeply. Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen on 8th June 1951, she was known professionally as Bonnie Tyler, a beloved Welsh singer whose powerful voice defined classics like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero". She rose from local club performances to global fame, earning an MBE, Grammy nominations, and a place in music history with her iconic raspy vocals and unforgettable ballads. She is remembered as a warm, generous artist whose music touched generations and continues to fill dance floors and karaoke booths around the world. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, her beloved Robert. Gaynor was a dear sister of Marlene, Angela, Avis, Paul and the late Pauline and Lynn, much loved sister-in-law of Paul & Angela, Michael & Winnie, Gwyn, Jan, Teresa, Margaret and the late Billy.
