GoSafe, Wales' road casualty reduction partnership, has mapped out the latest locations of mobile speed cameras across the country. Marked vans and motorcycles are manned by fully-trained police staff or police officers who monitor the speed of passing vehicles.


Once they form the opinion that a vehicle is exceeding the speed limit they use equipment to record it often resulting in prosecution.


A device called a speedscope can be trained on vehicles up to 1,000m away although most work is carried out far closer, GoSafe has said. Stay in the know by making sure youre receiving our daily newsletter.


The time, date, speed, distance, site coding, and whether the vehicle is travelling towards or away from the checkpoint is recorded on the image to produce to the offending driver. The partnership publishes the exact locations of the mobile cameras on its website for the public to view.
