Tributes have been paid to a "wonderful and generous" man who was killed in a multi-vehicle incident on a busy road in Carmarthen.

Emergency services were called to the A40 in the town at around 9.50pm on Tuesday, July 28 after concerns were raised for the safety of a pedestrian. According to police, several vehicles including a marked police vehicle on patrol collided with the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has now been named as 44-year-old Gerard Trojanowski, who lived in the Merthyr Tydfil area. Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here.

His family has said: "Gerard was a loving husband and father. A wonderful and generous person with a good heart. He will always be in our memories. As a family we ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Following the fatal incident, which saw a section of the A40 in Carmarthen shut for almost 24 hours, Dyfed-Powys Police made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which is a statutory requirement in relation to such incidents.
