Its been a long, hot summer across the UK and with the sunshine sticking around, plenty of Brits have been tempted to swap airport queues for a break closer to home. Instead of jetting off abroad, more people are choosing staycations, making the most of whats on their doorstep with seaside trips, countryside escapes and last-minute weekend getaways.

When it comes to places that deliver for both locals and visitors, Wales has plenty to shout about. From sweeping beaches and rugged coastal walks to mountain scenery and charming towns, its packed with experiences for locals and tourists alike.

With that being said, it's worth considering a trip to Aberporth Bay. The family-friendly destination features two beaches Dolwen and Dyffryn. These wide, sandy stretches prove popular with families, ideal for building sandcastles and discovering rockpools.

Visitors may be fortunate enough to spot dolphins in Cardigan Bay. Additionally, the location also attracts divers, sailing enthusiasts, and fishing fans.

If you're worried about being outside under the scorching sun all day, don't fret. The charming coastal village also features numerous cafes, pubs, bars, and restaurants for relaxing.

Wales Cottage Holidays explained: "This charming corner of West Wales offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal destination for families, couples, and even those seeking a dog-friendly getaway."

What's more, tourists have taken to social media to gush about their trips to Aberporth. Mum Elin recently urged other families: "This is Aberporth! Stunning little seaside town! Add it to your summer must-visit list."

During her trip to the seaside, she enjoyed picturesque walks with her daughter, stopped by at a cafe and also popped into a local ice cream shop. That sounds like the perfect day out, if you ask us!

In response to Elin's video, one commenter gushed: "I spent every summer as a child in a cottage on the green opposite the pub."

Meanwhile, a local said: "We're so lucky to live where we do." And a staycation fan added: "Looks beautiful".

Getting there

Those travelling by rail can take a train to Aberystwyth or Carmarthen, then continue with an approximately 1-hour journey to the coastline.

Alternatively, bus services operate to Synod Inn from Carmarthen Railway Station, with around 15 minutes remaining to the coast.

While West Wales Airport is situated nearby, it mainly handles supply operations, military and similar aircraft. Therefore, Cardiff International is the closest airport for visitors.

The journey by car takes slightly over two hours, while using public transport takes approximately three hours.
