Motivation & Context

This PR implements ADR-0032: Extract Durable Task and Azure Functions hosting into a separate repository, approved in #7247.

The Durable Task and Azure Functions hosting integrations have already been migrated to microsoft/agent-framework-durable-extension. This PR removes the ported code and repo infrastructure from this monorepo.

Description & Review Guide

Major changes

The following are the major changes:

  • Removes the migrated .NET and Python implementations, projects/packages, tests, sample bodies, detailed feature documentation, and dedicated CI/integration-test infrastructure.
  • Removes the corresponding solution, workspace, package, build, release, and ownership wiring from this repository.
  • Keeps backward-compatibility and customer-navigation surfaces rather than removing the integrations without a transition path.

Note that package names will remain the same as before. The only difference is what repo holds the code.

Impact of these changes

  • Durable Task and Azure Functions development, samples, issues, and releases move to the extension repository.
  • Existing Python consumers retain agent_framework.azure lazy re-exports, including WorkflowHitlContext, and both external packages remain in agent-framework-core[all]; uv.lock resolves the published packages from PyPI rather than editable workspace sources.
  • This repository no longer builds, tests, or publishes the extracted packages/projects.
  • Breadcrumbs remain in the root README and durable feature page, at the former Python and .NET sample entry points, and in the Python compatibility shim.
  • The .NET InternalsVisibleTo("Microsoft.Agents.AI.DurableTask") grant also remains while the external extension still needs internal Workflows surface (related fix is tracked in .NET: [Feature]: Make Workflow.Edges, EdgeData.Connection and FanOutEdgeData public #7448 / .NET: expose workflow routing metadata #7459).

Things for reviewers to focus on

  • Whether the extraction removes all owned artifacts without deleting shared core functionality or leaving dangling build/CI references.
  • Whether the Python shim, [all] extra, external lockfile resolution, and customer-facing redirects provide the intended compatibility and discoverability.

Contribution Checklist

  • The code builds clean without any errors or warnings
  • All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible
  • The PR follows the Contribution Guidelines
  • This PR is linked to an issue and there is no other open PR for this issue (see Related Issue above).
  • This is not a breaking change. If it is a breaking change, add the breaking change label (or add "[BREAKING]" to the title prefix, before or after any language prefix) — a workflow keeps the label and the title prefix in sync automatically.

Remove the migrated implementations, samples, tests, documentation, and repository wiring now owned by microsoft/agent-framework-durable-extension. Preserve Python compatibility through the agent_framework.azure shim and agent-framework-core[all], and leave customer-facing redirects to the new repository.
