   3.8 branch? Symptoms are not reproduced here (v3.8.0 tag). That line in the c-api/sys.po file seems to be normal. More clues?

   I was on commit 1649882 on 3.8:

   mdk@seraph (3.8)$ git rev-parse HEAD

   c-api/sys.po:442: duplicate message definition...
   c-api/sys.po:158: ...this is the location of the first definition
   msgcat: found 1 fatal error

   Can reproduce on current HEAD:

   mdk@seraph (3.8)$ git rev-parse HEAD
   5eeeaa00f6ca9f5d58ffd3387feb332c938e58f5
   mdk@seraph (3.8)$ msgcat c-api/sys.po 
   c-api/sys.po:442: duplicate message definition...
   c-api/sys.po:158: ...this is the location of the first definition
   msgcat: found 1 fatal error

   c-api/sys.po:442 contains (sphinx-generated) obsolete messages. I don't understand that obsolete messages are causing problems during the build process, but I will delete obsolete messages.
