First of all, thank you for all the work you put into this library. It has become a critical dependency for many projects in the Home Assistant and smart home ecosystem.
I was wondering if it would be possible to release a new version soon. Several integrations and applications relying on py-kasa are currently affected by SSL issues that were fixed back in February, but those fixes have not yet made it into an official release.
I completely understand that maintaining an open source project takes time and energy, and releases are not always straightforward. Still, there are quite a few users eagerly waiting for these fixes, so a new release would be greatly appreciated.
If there is anything the community can do to help, whether it is testing release candidates, improving documentation, or assisting with the release process itself, please let us know. I'm sure many of us would be happy to contribute in any way we can.
Thanks again for maintaining py-kasa and for all the work you've done so far!
Another data point for a release: Tapo C225, firmware 1.3.2 Build 260811 Rel.84955n, Home Assistant 2026.9.2 (container), python-kasa 0.10.2, Python 3.14.6, OpenSSL 3.5.7.
Adding the camera through the TP-Link Smart Home integration fails with SSLV3_ALERT_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE on port 443. Probed with openssl s_client, the camera accepts only TLS 1.2 with ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 and ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384; AES128-GCM-SHA256 and AES256-GCM-SHA384 (static RSA) are rejected, as is TLS 1.3. From inside the HA container, an SSLContext with the 0.10.2 CIPHERS list fails the handshake, and the same list with the two ECDHE suites prepended connects (TLSv1.2, ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256). So the change from #1654 that is already on master would fix this camera; it only needs to reach PyPI.
Regarding #1727: there, firmware 1.3.2 Build 260716 made the integration work again on a C225 V2. This unit runs the later 1.3.2 Build 260811 and still offers ECDHE only, so a firmware update is not a reliable way out.
Workaround in use: the core ONVIF integration on port 2020 (stream, no privacy mode or camera settings).
Hello there, and sorry for the radio silence. I think we can close this as I did a new release a week ago (https://github.com/python-kasa/python-kasa/releases/tag/0.11.0.1). tend to agree that it has become a bit too important for a hobby project, so I am currently working on to making the library more future-proofed, so that its maintenance does not depend so tightly and solely on me and my fellow maintainers.
Thanks again for your nice words, I hope this software has been useful for you :-)

Same root cause as #1724 and #1736.
