My name is Son (David) Nguyen. I'm currently a full-time Software Engineer at TikTok in San Jose, CA, and a graduate from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I obtained a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.A. in Economics, and a minor in Data Science in December 2025. 👨🏼‍💻

  • Today — Software Engineer - Infra at TikTok (since late July 2026), building and operating large-scale infrastructure and reliability/compliance systems for TikTok/ByteDance's production services. 🚀
  • Recently — Software Engineer - Product at Matroid, Inc. (Summer 2026), shipping computer-vision product features, agentic AI workflows, vision-language detectors, and platform integrations on Matroid's flagship CV platform. 👁️

    • Infrastructure & Reliability – TikTok/ByteDance Video and Edge Global Infrastructure — currently building and operating large-scale infrastructure and reliability systems that keep TikTok and ByteDance's production services healthy, observable, and resilient.
  • 🔬 Matroid, Inc.'s:
    • Core Matroid Platform – Flagship Computer Vision Product — shipped full-stack product features on Matroid's platform for building, training, and deploying custom computer-vision detectors, including agentic AI workflows, vision-language detectors, automated annotation, video search/try-out experiences, and an MCP server for AI-assistant integrations.
  • 📚 LexisNexis's:
    • Lexis+ AI – Flagship AI-Powered Legal Research Platform — contributed full-stack features to Lexis+ AI (Angular + NgRx + Module Federation frontend with .NET/C# backend), working across the layered agent architecture spanning Ask Agent, Vault, Drafting, Legal Research, and Memory agents backed by Qdrant and DynamoDB.
    • SRE Production Guardian – Autonomous Deployment & Incident Response Agent — built a LangGraph/CrewAI-based SRE agent that monitors blue-green and canary deployments on AWS ECS Fargate, auto-remediates or rolls back on failure, and escalates to human operators while maintaining SLI/SLO targets across Datadog, Splunk, and Coralogix.
    • Navigator – Agentic Employee Onboarding Companion — designed an AI onboarding agent that proactively checks in with new hires, routes questions to the right person via a Graph RAG knowledge graph, and integrates with ServiceNow, Microsoft Graph, Confluence, Workday, and Teams.
    • Graph Context Knowledge System – Org-Wide Knowledge Graph for Agents — built a Neo4j-backed organizational knowledge graph (people, teams, tools, processes, projects) with BM25 + semantic search to feed contextual grounding into Navigator, SRE Guardian, and other agentic initiatives across the company.
    • Deployment Pipeline Orchestrator – End-to-End MFE Onboarding & Deployment Agent — built a Claude Code plugin (37 MCP tools, 10 skills) that takes a micro-frontend (MFE) from product request to production deployment. Replaces a fragmented 7-step, 4–6-tool manual workflow (GLITZ/ServiceNow, snikt CLI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, AWS, GitHub) with a conversational intake + orchestrated API pipeline and human-in-loop checkpoints — cutting onboarding time from ~2 business days to ~3 minutes of active input + ~15–25 minutes of agent execution.
    • Full SDLC Automation Chain – Reg-Impact to CodeValidation Pipeline — built an end-to-end autonomous development pipeline spanning regulatory impact analysis, AzureBoard CLI integration, auto-implementation, and CodeValidation, eliminating the majority of manual engineering overhead across the development lifecycle.
  • 🤖 Toshiba's:
    • Agentic Team – AI-Powered, Fully-Autonomous Software Development Platform — enhanced the internal agentic AI platform that now automates ~95% of the SDLC, designing 4+ multi-agent workflows (Kafka, Redis, LangChain, Neo4j, Weaviate) for autonomous code generation, review, and evaluation with safety guardrails, telemetry, and CI/CD integration. Built a 6-task-type QA Agent (unit, integration, regression, smoke, API contract, E2E), a LangGraph + Weaviate RAG pipeline that improved retrieval accuracy by 30%, a real-time admin stats dashboard with WebSocket monitoring, an AI cost analytics module for per-agent/per-model spend tracking, and multimodal LLM features (text + image + document).
    • ELERA® Commerce Platform – Intelligent Retail Solutions Ecosystem — integrated the Agentic Team's autonomous agents into the SDLC of ELERA's microservices architecture, enabling automated feature development, testing, and deployment across retail/point-of-sale services with minimal human intervention.
  • 📊 Financial Risk Group's VOR (Visualization of Risk) Stream Product — optimized the Angular/NgRx frontend and Django APIs of FRG's flagship risk-visualization platform (20% faster UI load times, 25% more efficient queries via a custom Performance Analyzer), and built a RAG-powered, RLHF-tuned chatbot (FAISS + LangChain + LLaMA + Kafka) with real-time document streaming that improved answer accuracy by 20%. Also shipped an AI Logs Explainer that cut incident analysis time by 70% and strengthened quality with Playwright E2E tests integrated into an Ansible-driven CI/CD pipeline.
  • 🚀 VNG Corporation's vCloudcam Camera Management System & Sale Websites — built multi-tenant management features and customer-facing sites with performant UIs, secure APIs, and analytics for device health and conversion tracking, and a low-latency camera streaming pipeline (with Red5, C++, and WebAssembly).
  • 📡 FPT Corporation's ICDP Internal Communications Platform — implemented AI-powered chatbots, collaboration features, and real-time messaging with SSO, RBAC, audit logging, and scalable backend services to support enterprise adoption.
  • 🏢 UNC DHEP Lab's AugMed — full-stack React + Flask platform on AWS (ECR/ECS/ALB, RDS, S3) with PostgreSQL, Celery/Redis, and JWT for secure digital-health surveys and data workflows.
  • 🦾 UNC AIMING Lab’s Foundation-Model Research — trained LLMs/VLMs & diffusion models at scale, built multimodal RAG systems, improved robustness via adversarial training, and applied RL to robotics with measurable gains.
  • 🗂️ Technical Consulting & Research (TCR)'s Project & Client Tracker — built a full-stack React + Flask platform with Auth0 RBAC, OAuth2/JWT auth, and CSRF/XSS protections, enabling staff to securely manage and track their projects and clients.
