[The Safari Smart Search field, where you can enter words and phrases to search the internet.]Go to the Safari app
[] on your Mac.Enter a word or phrase in the Smart Search field.
As you type, Safari Suggestions appear.
Choose a suggestion, or press Return to search using your selected search engine.
When you click a suggestion, Safari takes you to the web page or provides you with an interactive preview containing handy information.
Note: You can see suggestions from your browsing history, bookmarks and open web pages on all your devices. See Set up iCloud for Safari on all your devices in the iCloud User Guide.
You can also use Siri or search for anything with Spotlight to search the web, find information on your Mac and more.
To learn more, choose Apple menu
[] > System Settings, click Spotlight
[] in the sidebar, click Search Privacy, then click About Search & Privacy. (You may need to scroll down.)
