TikTok user Michael, operating under the handle The Mediterranean Gardener, has highlighted three common indoor plants thought to boost sleep quality by cleansing the air around us, reports Surrey Live.

He said: "Did you know that some plants continue to release oxygen into the night, making them perfect to have in your bedroom? We all know that plants take in carbon dioxide and give us oxygen through the day but at night photosynthesis stops and only carbon dioxide diffuses out."

Snake plant

The Snake Plant's eye-catching looks are complemented by its advantages, as it diminishes allergens by producing oxygen and moisture, reducing the effects of dust and dander, according to Easy Plant specialists.

Michael observed: "It can survive a long period of neglect and needs little watering."

Orchid

Orchids are available in numerous shades and bring sophistication to any space. They continuously eliminate toxins whilst releasing oxygen, promoting a peaceful night's rest.

Horticultural specialists at Plantura highlight that the plant effectively removes xylene, toluene and formaldehyde from indoor air, helping to create a healthier living environment.

Michael explained, "This beautiful flowering plant will oxygenate the air in your room at night."

Another worthwhile addition is the Areca palm, which goes by several names including the golden palm, butterfly palm and yellow palm. According to The Stem, this species featured in a NASA investigation into air-purifying plants and proved the most successful at eliminating harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) typically present in contemporary households.

Michael added: "With incredible jungle-like stems, this beautiful plant prefers indirect sunlight and a light mist a few times a week."
