Golden live Oscars performance for KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters band HUNTR/X find it "nerve-racking" to be performing live at the Oscars in March, but are "very honoured" to be up for so many awards. The trio cry when they hear huge hit Golden on the radio, but the most touching moment was witnessing the song being played to somebody at the end of their life. IT promises to be a Golden Oscars thanks to the real life KPop Demon Hunters.

HUNTR/X the band behind the hit animated Netflix show's soundtrack have already been asked to perform live at the Academy Awards in March before the final nominated songs are confirmed. Their global smash, Golden won Best Original Song at the Critics Choice Awards at the weekend and it's now firm favourite to repeat that success at The Oscars, beating the likes of Ed Sheeran and Shakira's Zootopia 2 tune. HUNTR/X's real life songwriting talents of EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami have already made space in their diaries to wow Hollywood's elite on the movie industry's biggest night of the year.

"It feels nerve-racking but exciting, we are very honoured," said EJAE hinting at new music as well. "The next couple of months are going to be insane, we are very busy but post Oscars look out for solo material." Don't be surprised to see the trio perform at the Grammys and BRIT Awards in February too.

KPop Demon Hunters ruled both screens and charts over the past year, becoming Netflix's most viewed show ever while the soundtrack slayed charts in more than 30 countries, including nine non consecutive weeks at No1 for Golden here in the UK.

Its one of three Top 10s credited to the animated group HUNTR/X AKA Rumi, Mira and Zoey whose singing voices are EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami. Golden is the catchiest and highest hit of the year, so how did they come up with the earworm? On the way to the dentist, revealed EJAE whose past credits include Kpop acts Aespa and Red Velvet.

The directors wanted a really hard song, they wanted high notes. So Rumi had to sing these unrealistic high notes that I tried my best to sing. The melody came to me really fast, And then when I had to record it and I was like, Woah, wait, this is super high...this is perfect.

HUNTR/X are demon hunters who challenge rival boy band and demons Saja boys. The movies themes of identity, redemption and shame are what drew the trio to the project. Audrey Nuna - herself half Korean and half American - said: When I was pitched the plot and meaning of the movie, it just felt like, Oh, this is in some way, shape, or form, my life story, and something that Ive always been really passionate about, pushing this message of, just be your full self, My parents immigrated here from Korea when they were younger, and my mum is very Korean, and she is very New York at the same time, so I was really raised with this mentality of, like, you can be both, and not one is one side is not more correct than the other side. Its so real to all of us. Everything that weve been through, as Korean Americans in music.

When Golden went to No1 the girls got emotional. I cried all day, literally, confessed EJAE. And the first thing I thought about was me as a kid - little, 11 year old EJAEs dream came true. Because writing songs are very personal, it feels like youre showing people your diary, so its really gratifying to have people really connect with something I wrote, The craziest thing is when Im on TikTok and I see a person I dont know in their house singing Golden. And kids just loving it.

The soundtrack has shattered so many records but there was one moment that trumped all the statistics and showed EJAE the true impact of their music.

Someone sent me a video of someones end of life. And there was a nurse who was playing guitar in his own version of Golden, and he sang basically the last song for her. That made me be like, Wow, this is why we write music. Cause that was the last song she heard before she passed. Im just so honoured for that to be the song.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 is officially happening with Netflix finalizing a deal for the animated sequel, aiming for a 2029 release. It will continue the adventures of Rumi, Mira and Zoey and new demonic threats. But before then the real life stars including EJAE are plotting an arena tour, so get ready for mass singalong mums and dads; and more merch!
