The band are the subject of a new 3-part Netflix docuseries and it's had the threesome reminiscing on times when they were a five-piece. And Howard Donald believes he's worked out the mysterious reason as to why Jason walked out during their heyday with little to no contact afterwards.
Back in 2014 Jason announced that he would be leaving the band following their 2005 reunion, when they toured mostly as a foursome, however occasionally joined by Robbie Williams who had been perusing a solo career at the time.
It came as a shock to Gary, Howard and Mark as well as their millions of adoring fans and Jason has never offered an explanation as to why he walked away - He's since lived a quiet life out of the spotlight. However, Howard, 57, believes he understands why Jason quit and never looked back.
He said: "That was a tough time for the three of us and I kind of in my head knew it was coming.
"I always feel, whether it's true or not, I always feel like getting the five back together for the Progress Tour was something that Jason always wanted before he was going to call it a day and that happened and rightly so...
"I don't really know the reason, this is something that Jason would have to answer really, but I feel like he had enough of the fame and being recognised and the whole music business and the way that it works.
"Because we all know the music business is like a cycle, you know you do this and you have to do that and then you have to do that, it's like a routine and I think he had enough of it."
Asked if he would like him to return, the threesome collectively responded "yeah".
Meanwhile, Mark told Magic he thinks it was "brave" of Jason to walk away: "With our band Jason made brave decisions, to actually go 'no I want to do this for me now'."
They also teased a new album will drop later this year, following their Circus tour this Summer.
Gary said: "We are aware we've got big a opportunity this year, we've got this big Netflix thing, a big tour in the summer and wouldn't it be a shame if we didn't get some new music out?
"We're on a new label Islands Records which we are very excited about, and we've been writing for about a year so we've got lots of material we will be recording in April and hopefully record for the Fall."
