A controlled explosion was carried out outside St Pancras station this afternoon after a suspect vehicle triggered a major security alert in central London. Bomb squad unit specialists rushed to the transport hub after an unattended vehicle sparked panic during the incident, forcing the evacuation of passengers from the large terminal.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang ring out near the station as police bomb disposal experts moved in to make the scene safe.
Pictures from the area showed a grey Nissan sitting inside a wide police cordon, with various items scattered across the ground around the vehicle following the blast.
The Metropolitan Police later confirmed the vehicle was declared non-suspicious after the controlled detonation took place.
A spokesperson for the Met told the Mirror: "A controlled explosion was carried out during the incident near St Pancras. The unattended vehicle has since been declared non-suspicious."
During the height of the drama, East Midlands Railway cleared the entire building, while TfL cordoned off the main and north entrances to King's Cross St Pancras Underground station at the request of officers.
Traffic ground to a halt around the perimeter, with long tailbacks building on Pancras Road between Euston Road and Goods Way as bus routes were diverted.
Emergency services have now left the scene and the station has reopened.
Rail operators confirmed services are resuming, though passengers have been warned to expect delays and cancellations while timetables recover.
