A man has tragically died after being pulled from the water at a well-known beach in East Sussex.

The 18-year-old encountered difficulties at Camber Sands on Sunday evening alongside two others, a 16-year-old lad and an 24-year-old man who both managed to get out of the water safely. It was initially reported that a 24-year-old man had died while the 18-year-old had escaped the water. It has now been confirmed that it was the 18-year-old who died.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and recovered a 18-year-old man at around 7pm, and he was tragically pronounced dead. His relatives have been notified as officers boost their presence in the area while investigations continue, reports the Express.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said they were called just before 7pm on Sunday after it was reported that three people had got into difficulty after entering the water.

Sussex Police said: Sadly, despite lifesaving attempts by paramedics at the scene, he was pronounced deceased a short while later.

His next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with them. Inquiries in the area remain ongoing and an increased emergency presence is visible at this time.

The three were known to each other and had travelled to the beach together from London, police added. There are no suspicious circumstances and this will now be a coronial matter, a spokesperson said.

A coastguard spokesman added: "At 6.37pm last night, HM Coastguard was called to an incident at Camber Sands, East Sussex.
