The UK has been struck by yet another earthquake as the UK's seismic activity is on the rise in recent week. While the world is watching on for the impact of a whopping 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Russia, the British Geological Survey has confirmed that a major earthquake hit Inchlaggan in the Scottish Highlands - a popular hiking spot - on August 1 at 4.45pm.
The earthquake had a depth of a deep 8km in Inchlaggan, with the epicentre a whopping 24km wide, and a a magnitude of 3.1.
Having already been shaken by more than 100 earthquakes this year already, the British Geological Survey previously confirmed that nine have struck in the space of one week with three hitting on the same night.
The first struck on Monday, July 21, at 2.44am at a depth of 9km in the heart of Dorrington, Shropshire. This measured 1.1 on the Richter Scale, and was followed nearly 21 hours later in Ormidale, Argyll and Bute.
Despite only measuring 0.8 on the scale, it was discovered at a depth of 3km before a two day seismic break. The next movement happened on Wednesday, at 12.56am in the Celtic Sea, just off the coast of St Davids.
The first was detected at 12.43am and measured 1.3 on the scale in Kilfinan at a depth of 3km, while the second happened just nine minutes later in Ormidale, measuring 0.8 and at a depth of 3km once again.
The activity moved to Llangurig in Powys, Wales just four hours later, as at 3.15am, a 1.1 earthquake was detected at 4km depth on July 25.
But then on July 27, two huge earthquakes were detected in the Southern North Sea potentially the largest of the yea so far.
At 7.15pm and at a depth of 18km, a whopping (for the UK) 3.2 earthquake was felt, and the another at 8.19pm was detected at the same magnitude but this time it was 21km deep.
Both struck in roughly the same area, just 240km off the coast of the coastal town of Cromer.
And finally, two hours later on the same night, a tiny 0.8 quake was found in Llanddewi, Powys, Wales at 10.36pm and at a depth of 3km deep.
No damage was reported across any of the earthquakes but let us know in the comments or by emailing adam.cailler@reachplc.com if you felt anything during the seismic events.
