World War 3: Safest places to hide if the nukes start flying in WW3

World War 3 is a future conflict which could kill millions of people worldwide but where is the best place to hide?

These are the safest places to be if World War 3 breaks out and nuclear weapons start flying amid tensions between the US and Iran.


Tensions are raging around the world with barbs being thrown by US President Donald Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Chinese premier Xi Jinping, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and the Iranian Ayatollah.


With plenty of fingers on red buttons in the halls of power, yesterday World War 3 even started trending on social media .


It all came after the US killed Irans top general Qassem Soleimani in a brazen strike, sparking fears of a fresh war.

And while war between the US and Iran wouldnt be a global conflict, it could set in motion a chain of events leading to World War 3.

And just in case that happens, Daily Star Online has compiled the safest places to be based on the Global Peace Index.

The Global Peace Index ages countries relative peaceful creating a ranking of 172 states and territories.

These are the countries which are least likely to be involved in a war and most likely to be peaceful.

It has however rated a less peaceful world over the past decade with a 3.78% in peaceful since 2008.


And the last year the average level of global peacefulness improved for the first time five years, but that was before the latest spat between the US and Iran.

Coming in at the most peaceful country in the world is Iceland.

It has a small population of just 325,000 people, no army, is protected by NATO and has a remote location.


Second place was New Zealand, which also has a remote location and relatively small population of just 4.8 million.

And sitting in third place was Portugal, a country that hasnt been involved in a war since the 1940s.

Austria and Denmark come in at fourth and fifth, while Canada and Singapore are in sixth and seventh.


Slovenia then comes eighth, with Japan ninth and Switzerland rounds out the top ten.

Britain meanwhile comes in at a measly 45th and then the United States is an extraordinary 128th.

Trumps nation is just 11 spaces over Iran at 139 amid the ongoing tensions, while Russia comes in at 154, North Korea 151 and China at 110.


Global Peace Index rank the most dangerous country in the world as Somalia.

And one from bottom is Iraq, the scene of the USs airstrike that killed Soleimani.

Above those two places South Sudan, Syria and Yemen to round out to the bottom five.

Tensions around the world have been ratcheted up thanks to the US's killing of Soleimani.

World leaders are calling for calm, but Iran has promised to respond to the US strike sparking fears the two nations could be one step from war.


Meanwhile, North Korea's leader Kim has promised to restart developing nuclear missiles as the US failed to ease sanctions.

And then Russia is consistently accused of meddling in the West, with one of Putin's top generals warning of World War 3.

China also remains a growing superpower, slowing swelling its influence and laying claims to the South China Sea.
