Elon Musk's gaming confession has left his credibility among Diablo fans in tatters. He let slip his antics at Donald Trump's Presidential Inauguration.
The SpaceX and Tesla boss has been embroiled in a "cheating" scandal, having previously bragged about being one of the best in the world at Diablo IV. Now it appears that he has admitted to boosting his account by buying endgame characters in some popular games. The method is technically considered cheating, and the X owner was quickly called out over it by various YouTubers.
Musk apparently came clean to his faux pas in series of DMs exchanged with YouTuber NikoWrex.
This conversation was subsequently shared in a video published on January 18 titled Addressing All the Elon Musk Drama in PoE2 with Elon Musk!, according to Forbes .
In the tell-all clip, NikoWrex reveals DMs where Musk supposedly gave the green light for their disclosure.
Within those DMs, the world's wealthiest bloke confessed to leveraging account boosting services to get ahead in Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV's endgame scenes, though he shrugged off any need for an apology, claiming it's par for the course.
Have you level boosted (had someone else play your accounts) and/or purchased gear/resources for PoE2 and Diablo 4? asked NikoWrex.
Musk responded with a 100% emoji before adding: Its impossible to beat the players in Asia if you dont, as they do!
Musk noted that hes appeared on multiple streams where its really him playing the games, but justified his use of account sharing to improve his characters without ever making it clear to followers that this was his tactic.
Account boosting is common in online multiplayer games, but also frowned upon by many, including game makers themselves who explicitly ban such activities in their terms of service.
While it can be hard to prove that a player paid someone else to level up their character, or grind for powerful and hard-to-get gear, account sharing for any reason is technically banned in both Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2 .
Regarding PoE2 , was it your intention to take full credit for leveling your HC characters? asked NikoWrex in one screenshot. No, responded Musk. Never claimed that. The top accounts in Diablo or PoE require multiple people playing the account to win a leveling race.
When pressed if he'd apologise to the Path of Exile 2 players for any misunderstanding, he shrugged off the idea: "What would I be apologizing for?"
This laid-back admittance surfaces amidst Musk's efforts to brand himself as a long-time dedicated gamer, a claim he reiterated on the famous Joe Rogan podcast chat about his undying passion for gaming.
