Mia Khalifa has laid herself metaphorically bare in a vulnerable and intimate interview. The adult star later described the conversations she had with Arab-Australian artist, Sarah Bahbah as "one of the most healing, cathartic pieces of art I have ever had the opportunity to create."
The first episode of Can I Come In? which landed on YouTube earlier this week, takes a deep-dive into Mia's thoughts on relationships and the impact they've had on her. Titled Mia Khalifa: Why We Romanticize People Who Need Saving, the interview is opens with Mia sprawled on a bed in a dimly lit room, wearing a sultry red dress near a silver platter of chips.
The video description states: "Welcome to the first-ever episode of Can I Come In: a bold new format where cinematic storytelling meets raw emotional truth.
"In our first episode ever, Sarah Joe aka Mia Khalifa steps into a world built just for her, one designed to hold the weight of a story shes finally ready to tell: an unfiltered exploration of a relationship that left her depleted, the illusions we cling to in the name of love, and the hard-earned lessons about boundaries, identity, and choosing yourself."
It opens with interviewer Sarah Bahbah stating: "Today, we begin with a story you've chosen to share - a relationship where you gave so much of yourself that you were left depleted.
"We're going to walk through that chapter together. The beginning, the unravelling, and the moment you knew you had to choose you."
The episode is broken down into chapters - the first dubbed "the fantasy of love," in which Mia shares details about a romance she describes as "a mirage..almost too good to be true."
She says: "In the end, it's because it wasn't. There was layers upon layers of a manufactured person perfectly fit and suited for me - but it was manufactured and nothing fake lasts."
Sarah asks: "Can you tell me about the way you learnt to love? Do you think Arab girls are taught to sacrifice themselves for partnership?"
Mia replies: "Oh my God, that's the one thing I wish Arab girls would unlearn. It's that they should sacrifice themselves and who they are for a relationship.
"That they should be on their feet all day because the man works or whatever it is, that's instilled in us from a young age and from seeing the matriarchs in our family in those positions."
In chapter two called "the hole at the bottom of the cup," the women choke after taking a toke on a shisha joking that "they bring shame on our Arab culture."
Sarah asks Mia: "Do you think you're an old soul?" to which Mia replies: "Bitch, I probably built the pyramids."
She continues: "I feel like I have been here, in so many different places and I feel that when I travel, I feel called to so many places. I'll land somewhere and I'll feel ties to it and I can't explain why. Or compelled to travel somewhere and I can't explain why.
"Something deeper than wanting to go and see the Eifell Tower or something."
The interview has so far attracted 81k views.
Since then, many empowered women rushed to have their say in the comments section as one wrote: "Such an important project.
"Seeing and listening to women breaking down their traumas, thoughts and emotions through spiritual and psychological conversations while being and staying in their feminine.
"Thank you Sarah for changing the narrative of how narratives are documented and told."
Another wrote: "You have no idea how deeply healing this is as an Arab woman.
"Not only getting to see and hear two beautiful Arab women that understand the traumas and culture but also two women who hold the space of healing and learning so much from love. Beyond in love with this project, cant wait for the rest!"
One added: "Its astonishing how this episode reflects every archetype of womanhood there isthe warrior, the lover, the sage, the mother... I couldnt take my eyes off Mia, by the way. Shes immensely beautiful, body and soultruly the embodiment of sensuality."
While one simply wrote: " The cinematic long form content we've all been starving for. Genius!! Excited to watch the rest!"
