One of South Korea's biggest K-pop stars has died suddenly in mysterious circumstances aged 27. Mo Su-jin's sudden death has left fans floored, with many unable to believe their favourite singer has gone.
The star was the vocalist in the mixed duo Acoustic Collabo alongside guitarist and founder Kim Seung-jae. She passed away last Sunday (25 Jan). Her entertainment agency Panic Button announced her death two days later.
They said in a statement: "The bereaved family is in mourning following the sudden news. "As per their wishes, we kindly request your understanding that details regarding the cause of death and other specifics will not be disclosed."
They added: "All funeral proceedings will be held privately with only family, relatives, and close acquaintances in attendance, following the bereaved family's wishes."
Mo was buried at the Eden Memorial Park in the city of Namyangju-si, South Korea. Born in 1999, Mo joined Acoustic Collabo in 2019, becoming the band's third singer after auditioning alongside 1,600 other hopefuls.
At the time, she said: "I thought I might receive a lot of criticism because I could be compared to previous vocalists. What was clear was that I really liked the music of Acoustic Collabo, but I didn't try to imitate the tone or musicality of the previous voices."
With Mo in the line-up, the band released their third studio album, Good to Be With You, in 2020. They stopped releasing music as Acoustic Collabo in 2021 due to a protracted legal dispute with their agency.
In 2022, Mo started releasing music under the solo stage name Clau:D with Kim Seung-jae continuing to work with her as songwriter and producer. They signed with Panic Button in June last year after winning their legal disputes with the previous agency, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Following her passing, Kim said: "You were my closest friend. I agree that no one knows me as well as you do.
"You taught me what happiness is and gave me the strength to keep living," she tearfully added. "I love you, my little sister."
Mo joins a long list of famous musicians who passed away aged 27. Known as The 27 Club, the morbid list of iconic and influential singers and musicians includes Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse.
