Genius storage hack keeps bananas fresh for 26 days put them in specific area

Bananas are one of those fruits that can ripen in an instant and turn brown and mushy even faster - but a food storage expert has shared a genius hack to stop them spoiling

Bananas are notorious for going off before we get a chance to eat them, which can be a waste of money and lead to food waste.

The fruit generally lasts for about two-seven days when stored outside the refrigerator, depending on their initial ripeness and the ambient conditions such as temperature and humidity.

But there's a simple way to make bananas last for around 26 days and it's all about storing them correctly. Before popping them in the fridge, you should consider taking some extras steps.

Amy Cross, shared her jar technique on her TikTok account @amycrosslegacy. It involves slicing up a banana, skin on, and leaving it inside a glass mason jar stored in the fridge.

With the results shown 26 days later, the sections of the banana appeared as fresh as ever, and the peel was still yellow showing no signs of browning.

In her video, Amy stated: "These are the bananas I purchased on March 13 and I cut this into thirds and put it into a jar, so they're 26 days old.

"So the whole goal of putting the bananas in the jar was to see if I can get a cut banana to last 12 hours and it's been 26 days."
