Bonnie Tyler said she was proud to have represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest. It comes as fans of the Contest have shared their shock and sadness at her tragic death.
After Welsh icon Bonnie's death was announced on Thursday (July 9), tributes began to pour in from thousands of fans of the singer. Many have already started to go back through her discography, listening to her biggest tracks including the classic Total Eclipse of the Heart.
But many new fans were shocked to learn that Bonnie had actually represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest over a decade ago. While she did not bring the trophy home, she admitted she didn't feel "let down" by the result.
Back in 2013, Bonnie Tyler was announced to be the UK's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Malm, Sweden. Shortly after releasing her latest album, Rocks and Honey, she revealed she would be singing her track Believe in Me.
Taking to the stage in Sweden, Bonnie would charm Europe with her song, being one of the bookie's favourites to win the entire competition. However, despite the hype behind Bonnie, she would end up finishing in 19th place with a total of 23 points.
Though she was able to scrape the UK off the bottom of the scoreboard, fans had hit out at the results, saying Bonnie had deserved to do better. Initially, Bonnie slammed the results as being politically motivated, but years later she was more realistic.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC in 2016, three years after her stint at the Contest, she reflected: "Im sure a lot of people will be disappointed on my behalf but I have really enjoyed my Eurovision experience. I did the best that I could do with a great song. I dont feel down.
"The songs at the top of the table totally deserve to be up there, of course I would have liked to bring it back to the UK but its been a night to remember," she added. "Im so glad and so happy that I did it because it was an incredible experience. It was like the Grammy Awards all over again."
In the wake of the news of her sudden death, Eurovision fans have flocked to offer their condolences to Bonnie and her loved ones. One fan penned: "Very sad news, condolences to Bonnie's family and friends."
