Jessica Alba has a starring role in Katseye's new music video. The rising girl group, whose formation was documented on Netflix series Pop Star Academy: Katseye, have released their new song Gabriela, as well as its accompanying music video. It's in the style of a telenovela, with the six members vying to take over Jessica's character as the new Gabriela.
The video opens with Jessica giving a talking down to the six members Lara, Sophia, Megan, Manon, Daniela and Yoonchae. The Fantastic Four actress looks red hot in a scarlet blazer, with her caramel blonde hair tumbling over one shoulder.
As she asks "who will be the next Gabriela?", the members stand up to assert their positions, with each of their outfits transforming into matching red ensembles. Each of them show off their acting chops, with Manon telling her rival Daniela: "Darling, you may smell of roses but you reek of desperation."
Megan then stands up demanding a vote, as Lara mocks her, saying: "That was so cute. While you were all playing executive dress up, I've been here saving the company."
Sophia and Yoonchae then chime in, trying to claim the top spot, before Jessica silences them. She says: "It's nice to see a competitive spirit. May the best Gabriela win."
The Latin-inspired song then starts, with the members taking shots at each other. As the chorus begins, the members perform the sizzling choreography around the boardroom meeting table.
As the video progresses, the girls battle it out telenovela style, with the expected level of drama and backstabbing. There are also group shots showing the choreography, that is sure to go viral on TikTok.
The cameras then cut back, with the girls interacting backstage of the telenovela. But it seems the drama has seeped into their real lives, and they sit down for a chaotic tell-all interview on a chat show.
The catchy track follows Katseye's song Gnarly, which at first attracted a divided opinion but soon went viral thanks to its powerful sound and eye-catching choreography.
The girl group was formed in collaboration between Hybe Corporation (the label behind K-Pop megastars BTS) and Geffen Records to create a global act. The members were selected during a gruelling reality show The Debut: Dream Academy in 2023, with the behind-the-scenes forming the Netflix show Pop Star Academy: Katseye.
They were narrowed down from around 20 participants, training the way K-Pop groups do. The final members picked formed the ideal global group, with members from the Sophia from the Philippines, South Korean Yoonchae, Gahnaian and Swiss-Italian Manon and three from the US, though the American members each have global roots too with Daniela being Venezuelan Cuban, Lara being Indian and Megan being Chinese Singaporean.
They debuted with the aptly named track Debut in June 2024, but saw breakthrough success with the follow up Touch. In April this year they released Gnarly, which peaked at No52 on the UK Singles Chart.
That track, and Gabriela, are taken from their upcoming second EP Beautiful Chaos, which will be released later this month.
