Oleksandr Usyk has opened up about his feelings towards his past opponents, admitting a particular disdain for one of his former foes.
The Ukrainian heavyweight, who is preparing for a highly anticipated rematch with Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, has made it clear that while he generally harbours respect for his rivals, often shaking hands and showing his class in and outside of the ring, one fighter is an exception.
Speaking to DAZN, Usyk didn't hold back as he took aim at former world champion Marco Huck. He said: "My weakness? I love people. I love my opponents. Only one of my opponents I do not love It's Marco Huck. He is a bad guy because this man said bad words about my mother. Listen, it is bad, but all my British rivals, they are great people."
Usyk, known for his avoidance of trash talk, was angered by Huck in the lead-up to their 2017 clash in the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament quarter-finals.
Despite nearing the twilight of his career with thoughts of hanging up his gloves after two more bouts, Usyk's passion for boxing hasn't waned.
Yet, it seems Huck's comments about Usyk's mother have left a lasting hatred that the Ukrainian has not got over.
During their last standoff, as Huck shoved Usyk, who later roared: "I will bury him on Saturday," while being led away from the scene. This fiery exchange followed a string of personal jibes from Huck, including appalling comments about Usyk's mother.
Come fight night, Huck came out swinging but was eventually overpowered in the 10th round. Usyk triumphed in the tournament, defeating Murat Gassiev in the final showdown.
Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois will fight to become the undisputed heavyweight champion on Saturday, July 19.
Fans can order the fight on DAZN PPV for 24.99 or get it free with a DAZN Annual plan.
Fast forward eight years, and Usyk remains a titan in the boxing world, now preparing to square off against Dubois with the opportunity to clinch a third undisputed champion title.
Despite the competitive spirit, Usyk has shown admiration for his opponent, stating: "Daniel is a good athlete and a boxer. He has good skills Daniel... last three fights, he had great wins in Filip Hrgovic, Jarrell Miller and Anthony Joshua. I think he is a great fighter."
With the bout just around the corner, Usyk is eager to quash any lingering doubts and definitively end the rivalry. He confidently declared: "I win... wonderful."
