Jena Sims, the wife of LIV Golf sensation and five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, has announced the heartbreaking news that the pair have suffered a pregnancy loss.
The 36-year-old took to Instagram on Monday to share that she had reached 16 weeks of pregnancy when doctors discovered her unborn baby's heart had ceased beating.
The devastating blow has left both the actress and model and her golfing husband Brooks shattered, though she remains determined to shine a light on the experiences of other women and couples facing similar heartbreak.
"At 16 weeks, we learned that our baby's heart had stopped beating," Sims wrote in her post. "This is a grief no parent is ever prepared for. We are devastated, but remain hopeful to give Crew a sibling one day."
She continued: "Too often, these struggles happen in silence. There is still so much work and research needed to better understand and support women's reproductive health. If you're experiencing or have experienced pregnancy loss or infertility, please know you are not alone."
Whilst processing her own anguish and championing awareness around pregnancy loss, Sims made sure to acknowledge the medical professionals who face these situations daily.
"Lastly, I want to recognise the doctors and nurses who must deliver this kind of heartbreaking news every day," she concluded. "It has to be the hardest part of their job, and I'm holding space in my heart for you too."
Her post has garnered over 20,000 likes in just the first 19 hours and more than 800 comments, with reporter Amanda Balionis and influencer Paige Spiranac among those chiming in.
Sims, an actress and model, crossed paths with Brooks at the 2015 Masters before they tied the knot in 2022 and welcomed their son, Crew, a year later.
She praised her husband as an "amazing father" after they faced hurdles when Crew arrived seven weeks early in 2023, resulting in a 20-day stay in a neonatal intensive care unit and over a year of treatment wearing a helmet to address congenital torticollis.
"I think my life has changed a lot the last four years," Koepka previously reflected on fatherhood. "Obviously having a son changes my perspective on life, not just golf. Maybe golf was kind of everything for me, but having Crew definitely changes my perspective."
Koepka wrapped up the current LIV Golf season with two top-10 finishes, including a runner-up spot in Singapore, marking his best result of the year.
As for the majors, he missed the cut in three of them and finished T12 in the US Open. In his most recent outing, Koepka finished T15 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
