The Daily Star: News with a Wink

Micah Richards' alternative Spurs XI is 'abomination' and doesn't have Harry Kane up top

Fans have torn into Micah Richard's alternative Tottenham starting XI, labelling it an "abomination" after the former Manchester City defender put Harry Kane in midfield

Fans have ripped into Micah Richards on social media after he suggested an 'alternative' line-up for Antonio Conte to use

Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 system might not be working perfectly at the moment but it looks like a piece of unadulterated genius compared to the laughable 'alternative' Tottenham line-up suggested by Micah Richards.

Ahead of Spurs' clash with Preston in the FA Cup on Saturday, BBC pundit Richards said he thought Conte needed to "change tactics" in order to get his side ticking before proposing a different formation and starting XI.

The line-up, which saw Harry Kane playing in the No. 10 role rather than up front and the team switching to a 4-2-3-1 system, was absolutely savaged by fans on social media, with one dubbing it an "abomination".

"That Micah Richards line-up is the worst team I've ever seen," one supporter tweeted. Another asked: "What the f*** is the abomination of a team Micah Richards just suggested?"

A third added: "Why on earth would you not put one of the world's best striker in the striker role? Can see why Richards didn't go into management."

Another said: "Dier in a back four? Emerson Royal in a back four? Only two midfielders? You've got to be joking. What is this s***?"

Where would Tottenham finish in the league if they used Micah Richard's XI for the rest of the season? Let us know in the comments section below.

Richards suggests Tottenham change to a back four and move Kane into midfield

Explaining his choices, Richards said: "Conte played a back four in 2011/12 [season] with Juventus, and I just think [this is the way] to get the best out of this Spurs team at this moment in time.

"When Spurs have five at the back basically they're all in the same position, so they can stick with a four at the back. Jermaine talks about a pressing midfield, Harry Kane's position he always comes really deep so he's like a [No.] 10 anyway.

"And we've seen Richarlison play No. 9 for Brazil at the World Cup, and he did it amazingly well. So I just think we know what Conte's system is, it's no working, so can he tweak it to something he's done before to get the best out of his team?"
