WWE Monday Night Raw results as Rusev returns and Gunther rages in Las Vegas

WWE's road to Wrestlemania 42 is firmly under way just hours after the 41st edition ended. Monday Night Raw in Las Vegas, the host city of this year's Wrestlemania, is the start of the new path, with shock debuts and new champions crowned.

The night started with John Cena entering with his newly-won record breaking 17th World Championship, declaring he was never losing and will retire as champion only for long-time rival Randy Orton to hit him with an RKO to set up a huge clash at the upcoming Backlash Premium Live Event in Orton's home town of St Louis, Missouri, next month.

Next up was a title defence by the new Women's Tag Team Champions Lyra Valkyria and a returning Becky Lynch.

The pair lost to former now new again champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, which saw Lynch attack her now-ex partner after the match.

Another new set of champions, The New Day, came out to battle Akira Tozawa and Otis, only for a returning Rusev to take out all of the anger he's had built up inside him after a failed run in rival promotion AEW on Tozawa and Otis.

The crowd went wild, and it was later revealed that long-time manager CJ Perry will also return to WWE but on a legends contract.

Gunther, who lost to Jey Uso at Mania, snapped on Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, choking the latter out while Cole raged at General Manager Adam Pearce about being safe at work . . . an interesting storyline to say the least.

Iyo Sky came out next to celebrate retaining her Women's World Championship, only for NXT Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer to come out and challenge her the pair had an incredible battle, interrupted by NXT's Roxanne Perez and Guilia.

Rhea Ripley saved the day, although the crowd seemed annoyed that the match was cut short.

New WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jey Use came out, yeeted, and was joined by Sami Zayn and his brother Jimmy Uso . . . who also yeeted strange segment.

Dominik Mysterio successfully defended his newly-won Intercontinental Championship against Penta, with help from a returning JD McDonagh, to leave The Judgement Day celebrating holding lots of gold.

Raw ended with Seth Rollins being showcased by Paul Heyman, only for Roman Reigns and CM Punk to come out but Bron Breakker saved Seth, to signal a new alliance between Heyman, Rollins and himself.
