The first race of day three at Glorious Goodwood was overshadowed by a nasty fall suffered by Savvy Disko and Billy Loughnane with the horse subsequently taken away in an ambulance

Billy Loughnane suffered a fall on Savvy Disko at Goodwood

Savvy Disko suffered a nasty fall and was taken away in a horse ambulance in the opening race of day three at Glorious Goodwood.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Sean Woods and ridden by Billy Loughnane, appeared to clip heels on the run-in during the Class 2 Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap broadcast live on ITV.

Loughnane, 19, is the darling of the racing world after a perfect ride on Bow Echo to win the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday, but he ended up on the turf in a heap. The teenager initially stayed on the ground but cameras showed him walking back to the weighing room.

Savvy Disko will receive the best possible care after receiving urgent care and attention on course.

Fans sent messages of hope that Savvy Disko's condition isn't serious, with one saying: "Hope both Billy Loughnane and Savvy Disko will be okay."

A second added: "Glad to hear Savvy Disko has walked on to the horse box, fingers crossed." While another said: "Hoping & praying for Savvy Disko."

Before the start of the 1m2f handicap, favourite and eventual winner Ciarrai Abu unseated jockey George Wood on his way down to the stalls.

The race was delayed Wood was given a lift down to retrieve the Harry Eustace-trained horse. The horse was checked over by vets and given the all-clear to race.
