WWE Backlash 2025 LIVE: John Cena beats Randy Orton to retain his Undisputed Title

Before we wrap it up for this evening, let's have a quick recap of the action.

John Cena retained his Undisputed WWE championship.

Lyra Valkyria retained the WWE Women's Intercontinental championship in a brutal match with Becky Lynch despite appearing to suffer a broken nose during the bout.

Jacob Fatu walked out of St Louis with the WWE United States championship after free agent Jeff Cobb suddenly hit the scene and ruthlessly dismantled Knight with a ringside assault in his first WWE appearance.

Earlier in the match, Priest hit McIntyre with a huge South of Heaven chokeslam from an elevated height through a pair of tables.

Dirty Dominik Mysterio beat Penta in the WWE Intercontinental championship match after a run-in from El Grande Americano who used his steel-plated mask to blast Penta in the face.

And Gunther beat Pat McAfee.

Cena cuts his music off and tells the crowd: "Drink it in St Louis. Because this is what the last real champion looks like."

His cold statement brings to an end the evening.

After a messy finish, which saw Randy Orton twice appear to have the match won only for a referee to be incapacited and R-Truth suffer an RKO, John Cena retained the title.

Both men have traded near falls and big blows as they battle for the title.

More than 17,000 fans are packed into the arena in St Louis.

And while hometown hero Randy Orton is the overwhelming favourite, John Cena has some fans in the crowd.

As some chanted "you can't wrestle", others interjected with "yes he can!"

And a kick out at two from Orton. The St Louis crowd is on its feet for this one.

It comes after Big Match John hit an Attitude Adjustment to the Legend Killer.

And in an earlier spot, both men appeared to hit their finishers at the same time.

Ahead of the main event between Randy Orton and John Cena, one eagle-eyed fan clocked a Daniel Bryan lookalike in the crowd.

Grappleclips wrote: "Im glad Daniel Bryan showed up to watch Cena vs Orton!"

Well, that wasn't expected. A touching show of respect from Gunther after the match. McAfee gave a good account of himself in a bout in which he was expected to be thoroughly dismantled.

The referee calls it off. McAfee gave it a good go and almost rallied to break out of the rear choke hold. But Gunther locked it in and McAfee could no longer continue, the match official ruled.

Now, an angered Gunther has McAfee locked in a rear choke hold.

McAfee took advantage of the distraction to try to roll up Gunther, who kicked out at two.

Then, Cole grabbed the foot of Gunther as McAfee tried to pin him. But again, he kicked out.

Michael Cole has now got involved in the match! He's 58 years old.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is taking on Raw commentator Pat McAfee in a match in the ring.

Gunther, nicknamed The Ring General, snapped on Raw the night after WrestleMania and attacked Michael Cole, prompting McAfee to jump in and save his broadcast partner, only to incur the wrath of Gunther and be put to sleep.

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce suspended Gunther, but McAfee challenged Gunther to a match, which will be McAfee's first singles match since WrestleMania 39.

Wrestling fans are praying for commentator Pat McAfee as he steps into the ring with Gunther.

Broadcast colleague Michael Cole apologised to viewers ahead of the match as he said he could not be unbiased.

But he also admitted he was scared for the health and safety of McAfee, who entered the ring in jeans and trainers.

And fans were also worried. One social media user wrote: "Oh gosh Im scared for Pat."

Another wrote: "Lets all say a quick prayer for Pat McAfee."

Penta looked set to beat Dirty Dom, until Chad Gable turned up and cost him victory. Watch here:

Big Time Becks returned at Wrestlemania to partner Valkyria to win the tag team titles before turning on her the next night on Raw.
