Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be one of the biggest games of 2025 (if not the biggest), but there's an increasing concern that the game is slipping to next year.
The last we heard was February 6, when publisher Take-Two revealed the game was still on track in its earnings call, but with the game expected to launch in the coming months (with the prevailing theory being an October launch), fans are worried Rockstar's silence means a delay is imminent.
In fact, Rockstar still hasn't given us a second trailer, but it has shut down a community-made GTA 6 map mod, and re-released GTA 5 on PC with more content and improved visuals.
With a potential delay being costly for rivals, and fans "descending into madness", here's all we know about when we could be playing GTA 6.
It's been almost a year and a half since we got that infamous first trailer for GTA 6 which broke the internet, and the promise was clear "Coming 2025" is pretty unambiguous, after all.
With absolutely nothing from Rockstar in 2024, though, fans have been voicing their dissatisfaction. While a trailer would be great (and is sure to be dissected for months to come), some fans are concerned that we've not got any sort of blog post about the game in the months since, or even a single screenshot.
2025 has seemingly always been the target, with Strauss Zelnick (CEO of GTA 6 publisher Take-Two) being particularly vocal in his belief that the wait will be worth it.
"Rockstar will once again deliver something phenomenal", Zelnick said in December of 2024, but he has acknowledged there is always a "risk of slippage".
"Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like 'absolutely', you jinx things," Zelnick told IGN after the February 6 earnings call. "So we feel really good about it."
"I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally. We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs.
"Im fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so were all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.
So, does this mean Rockstar is simply waiting until they hit the required quality level for a release as monumental as GTA 6? It certainly sounds like it, and it makes sense that the company would withhold GTA 6's second trailer in case it promises a 2025 release date that the studio may not hit.
Rockstar and Take-Two could even be spending time working out how much to charge for GTA 6. Nintendo charging 75 for Switch 2's Mario Kart World could set a precedent that Rockstar could look to follow.
Back in January, one industry analyst suggested GTA 6 being priced higher than other titles could help the games industry, but not long after, however, another industry analyst dubbed the notion as "ridiculous".
These are all things that would need to be hammered out before revealing a firm release date so try not to feel too panicked yet.
