The Daily Star: News with a Wink

Persona series sales figures are good news for anyone waiting for Persona 6

Atlus has revealed some interesting numbers related to the Persona series that assure us there's a future for the franchise

Today, Atlus has announced the total sales for the Persona series and its related games, and it's good reading for anyone hoping to see more of the franchise on Western shores.

According to new information published by the development studio, Persona 5 Royal sales have surpassed 1.4 million units worldwide.

That's a pretty remarkable figure for a game that's effectively an enhanced re-release of a game that launched in the same generation.

Atlus also revealed the sales figures for Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers the spin-off (which has yet to see a release in the West) has sold through an impressive 480,000 units in Japan and Asia.

The recent PC release of Persona 4 Golden has also sold well. Though only launching last month, the game has manage to sell 500,000 units on PC alone.

Combined, this means the Persona series has managed to sell over 13,000,000 units over its lifetime.

That's good reading for anyone that wants more of the esteemed role-playing franchise in the near-future: with Atlus recently announcing the next game from Persona's parent franchise, Shin Megami Tensei, is due for a worldwide release, it stands to reason that future Persona games will see the same treatment.

That means, ideally, Western gamers will get to see Persona games at the same time as Japan, and that the gap between releases around the world will be as minimal as possible.

For anyone wanting the Persona series to make its way to Switch, we advise buying the Shin Megami Tensei III HD Remaster when it launches in Spring 2021 and showing Atlus that there's a massive appetite for its games on Switch as well as PC and PS4.

Atlus has yet to announce its future plans for the Persona series, but we'll keep you updated when we hear more about the studio's incoming titles.
