Coronation Street icon Richard Fleeshman has a very famous mum as sister co-stars on soap

Coronation Street fans have been left stunned after discovering that Richard Fleeshman's mum has also starred on the soap

Soap operas often blur the boundaries between drama and reality when family members secure roles on the same show.

Coronation Street's Isabella Flanagan, who portrays Hope Stape, daughter of Fiz Brown (played by Jennie McAlpine), shares the ITV show with her brother William, who plays Joseph Brown, son of Chesney (Sam Aston).

The siblings also have a real-life link to Emmerdale's April Windsor star Amelia Flanagan, who happens to be their older sister.

Cousins Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach have both had successful runs on the show, while Rick Neelan actor Greg Wood is actually the real-life sibling of Tommy Orpington star Matt Milburn.

Rosie's brother Richard used Corrie as a springboard into his music and theatre career

Just last month, Rosie Fleeshman became the latest family member to follow in the footsteps of her famous sibling, Richard Fleeshman, enjoying a guest appearance on Corrie. Their mother has also featured on the show, reports the Mirror.

Richard first appeared on the soap as Craig Harris in 2002, alongside his on-screen family, including his father, Tommy Harris (Thomas Craig), his mother, Angela Harris (Kathryn Hunt), and his sister, Katy (Lucy-Jo Hudson).

The family landed in Weatherfield as part of a witness protection scheme, and they quickly caused quite a stir. Furthermore, young Craig was at the heart of several dramatic storylines during his time on the show.

In 2005, he lost his entire family when his sister Katy murdered their father Tommy in a fit of rage, and their mother Angela took the blame. Unable to bear the guilt, Katy later ended her own life.

The character also began a relationship with Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan), becoming her first love interest. Craig even schemed to escape to Berlin alongside Rosie.

Other roles include playing Taylor Fielding on Death In Paradise in 2024(Image: BBC)

Nevertheless, in 2006, Craig left on his own and said goodbye to the cobbles. Since his departure, actor Richard has remained busy, featuring in other popular shows including Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise, alongside theatrical work.

Who is Richard Fleeshman's mum?

Richard comes from an accomplished family, with his mother, Sue Jenkins, joining Coronation Street as Gloria Todd in 1985 and establishing herself as a familiar presence in the Rovers Return. She worked with Julie Goodyear, who memorably portrayed landlady Bet Lynch.

Outside her Corrie stint, Sue also played Jackie Corkhill in Brookside from 1992 to 2001, and had a short-lived role in Emmerdale in 2008 as Bonnie Drinkwater.

In 2024, Richard appeared on Loose Women and chatted with presenters Kaye Adams, Kelle Bryan, Linda Robson, and Jane Moore about his role in the sci-fi series The Ark, while paying homage to his mother's Brookside years.

"She was amazing in that show", he said. "I was allowed to watch certain episodes growing up. Some of them were a little bit past my bedtime. It was an amazing show and such a great following."

Richard's father is David Fleeshman, known for his role in Boys from the Blackstuff, and he has credited his parents as the inspiration behind his successful career. He stated, "I grew up with both of them being around the industry fully, so it was just everything I knew."

The disclosure of Sue and Richard's Corrie connections left viewers stunned. On X, formerly Twitter, one fan commented about Sue's Coronation Street appearance.

Another fan chimed in: "That's Richard Fleeshman's mum!" A third individual remarked: "Wow, all this time watching and I never knew that, I can see her son in that photo now."

Yet another added: "Her real-life son played Craig Harris, son of Psycho Tommy!"
