Emmerdale has recruited a star from Death in Paradise in a Charity Dingle twist. Charity (Emma Atkins) has endured a turbulent period on the ITV soap in recent months.

Earlier this year she fell victim to a despicable sexual assault by villainous Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) who then blackmailed her regarding the real parentage of Leyla Sugden.

The menacing doctor left the village to begin a fresh role in Sheffield, while Charity remained haunted by the aftermath of the attack. This week however, Dr Todd met her end accidentally at the hands of Charity's granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill) following a confrontation with Charity.

Despite Charity and Sarah enlisting enigmatic newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to devise a story for the authorities, Tuesday's (August 11) episode saw fresh character DS Ramsden arrive to launch the investigation.

And it emerges that DS Ramsden is portrayed by Chelsea Edge who is most recognised for her stint in BBC's Death in Paradise. She portrayed Sophie Chambers who was the partner of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) in the series, reports the Express.

Her part in the enduring detective show as Sophie witnessed her arrive as a backpacker before swiftly embarking on a relationship with DI Neville. Nevertheless, events took a shocking twist.

Sophie proceeded to set up Neville for the murder of criminologist David Cartwright (Patrick Kennedy). Chelsea featured in the show for 7 episodes from 2022 to 2023.

Regarding her role on Emmerdale, Chelsea's character DS Ramsden remains convinced that she's not receiving the complete picture from Charity and Sarah and is resolute in uncovering the truth.

Actress Chelsea's additional television appearances feature Sky comedy Brassic alongside Michelle Keegan, 2020's I Hate Suzie and the BBC drama Reunion which broadcast last year.

Meanwhile, discussing her character on Death in Paradise previously, Sophie had revealed: "When you go on holiday you have a little crush and you know it's not going to last forever.

"But I think she has such a soft spot for him and coming away from it - she's trying to be a realist - coming back, she's like, 'How have I left this incredible island and this guy I really like.' She doesn't want to let it go."

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
