Emmerdale has aired an update on Charity Dingle following her arrest for the death of Dr. Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).
Earlier this week on the ITV soap, Charity (Emma Atkins) faced the evil surgeon after she let herself into Jacob's Fold uninvited. After Todd refused to leave, Charity overpowered her before making Todd a glass of water and demanded that she listen to what she had to say.
In an unexpected development, Charity expressed her trauma from being raped as a teenager and being a victim of sexual assault by Todd, who refused to admit her actions.
Meanwhile, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) made a quiet entrance to Jacob's Fold and was horrified to hear of Todd's disturbing assault, and an argument quickly ensued.
As the altercation spiralled out of control, Sarah shoved Todd, who slipped on a rug, accidentally sending her head crashing into a coffee table and dying on impact.
Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) arrived to check on Charity after she had witnessed a row between Todd and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) in the street.
The former copper told Charity to call the police and advised the two women on what to say about Todd's death before leaving the scene.
When the police arrived, Charity and Sarah were arrested for questioning, with Charity taking the blame for the death and claiming that Todd had broken into her house in rage and attacked her, but the detectives were unconvinced.
DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) revealed her theory that Charity had killed Todd in revenge because the investigation into her rape hadn't gone the way shed hoped. Meanwhile, Sarah was allowed back home, where she reunited with baby Leyla.
On Thursday (August 13), after being held overnight in a police cell, Charity was told that she'll have to face more questioning as new evidence has come to light.
In their view, a picture is emerging of Charity and Sarah having a vendetta against Todd, but Charity's new solicitor tried to shut down this line of questioning.
When Charity returned to the village on bail, she faced the Dingle family, who fired a lot of questions at her, which she quickly shut down before confessing that she had been raped by Todd.
Emmerdale fans are now fearing one piece of evidence will frame Charity - Todd's DNA on the glass of water and on the sofa, which proves an altercation did not take place immediately after Todd let her into the home.
Taking to X, one Emmerdale viewer explained: "If the police actually go through the house & process all the evidence, Charity would be charged. Todd's DNA is all over her sofa & on that glass of water, which doesn't support her claim that Todd came in raging or that she was scared of her, but they won't. She's fine #emmerdale."
A second added: "DOH! SPOT THE INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE! Why's Todd's DNA on a glass of water? She's supposedly come in, all guns blazing. In the mle that ensued. At what point has Todd got thirsty & asked Charity for a quenching drink of water, or maybe they offered."
A third chimed in: "Like others, I wonder if the glass of water comes back into play. At first, I saw this theory and thought theyd just assume it was someone in the house's water. But was it deliberate to give her water for it to come up later? This show is giving me a headache. #emmerdale."
"#Emmerdale. Why did Charity give Todd a glass of water anyway? And why wasnt her door locked to prevent her rapist from walking in again? I guess they need these things for a story", asked another.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
